Wakefield, MA Movers

Most Wakefield moves are houses, like Colonials, Capes and ranches with driveways, garages and basements, plus older homes near the center and condos close to Route 128. Parking is rarely the hard part here. Garages full of tools and basements full of boxes are.

Garages, basements and long driveways

Most Wakefield houses give us a driveway, which helps. The work goes into what's inside, like a garage with a lawn mower, bikes and shelves, or a basement with a workbench, holiday bins and an old freezer. Those rooms can take as long as the bedrooms.

Put them on your inventory list, room by room. Drain gas from mowers and snowblowers before the move, since we can't load them full. If the driveway is long or slopes down to the street, tell us. We'll back in when it makes sense and use the driveway as the loading area so nothing sits on the sidewalk.

Basement stairs are often the narrowest in the house, with a low ceiling at the bottom. Freezers, treadmills and old couches that went down when the house was new don't always come back up the same way. If something heavy lives in your basement, send a photo of the stairs with your quote, and we'll plan the crew and the tools for it.

Around the lake and downtown

The neighborhoods near Lake Quannapowitt and Wakefield Center have older houses, some with steep front steps, narrow side streets and less room to park. On Main Street, a truck parked out front can block traffic, so we'll look at side street options. Check with the town about any permit rules for your street.

Greenwood, on the Melrose side, has its own Commuter Rail stop and plenty of single-family homes on smaller lots. Montrose, toward Lynnfield, has more of the newer houses. Either way, tell us about stairs, porches and anything that comes apart.

Condo complexes near Route 128 usually have parking lots and sometimes elevators. Ask the management about move-in hours and whether you need to book anything, then send us the details. We'll plan around that schedule.

Crew size and the busy seasons

Wakefield sits comfortably inside the area we cover north of Boston, and moves between Wakefield, Lynnfield, Melrose, Saugus and the North Shore are easy drives. For a typical three-bedroom house, we usually suggest 3 or 4 movers, especially with a full garage and basement.

Blankets, shrink wrap, dollies and tools are included at no charge, and so is basic disassembly of beds and tables. You'll get a written estimate before moving day. If you're selling and buying on different dates, our storage add-on covers the gap.

Fall and spring are the busiest house-moving months around here, since many families time a move around the school calendar. If you already know your closing date, send it with the quote and we'll hold the day.

Before you move in Wakefield

  • Drain gas from lawn mowers, snowblowers and grills before moving day.
  • List garage and basement items separately in your inventory.
  • If you live near Main Street, plan for the truck on a side street.
  • Check with the town about parking rules for your street.
  • Clear one bay of the garage so we can stage items under cover.

Wakefield moving questions

Can you move a lawn mower or snowblower?

Yes, as long as the gas tank is empty. We can't load equipment with fuel in it, so drain it a day or two before the move.

Our closing dates don't line up. Can you hold our things?

Yes. We offer storage as an add-on, so we can load your Wakefield house, store your things and deliver when the new place is ready.

How many movers does a typical Wakefield house need?

For a three-bedroom with a full garage and basement, usually 3 or 4. Your inventory list helps us size the crew in the written estimate.
