Suffolk County, Greater Boston
Movers in Winthrop, MA
Winthrop is a small peninsula next to Logan Airport, and the ways in all pass through East Boston or Revere. Streets are tight, houses are close together, and many sit on hills. It's in Suffolk County but it's its own town, so Boston's moving permit rules don't apply here.
Getting a truck onto the peninsula
There are only a couple of ways into Winthrop by road, through Orient Heights in East Boston or along the shore from the Beachmont side of Revere. Both run through busy areas near the airport. A morning start before traffic builds keeps the drive short, especially if your move is heading toward Boston or the North Shore.
Once the truck is in town, the next question is where it stops. Winthrop streets are narrow, and a lot of homes have no driveway. Check with the town about holding curb space in front of the house, and tell us what you hear. We'll look at how long the carry will be.
We start as early as 7am, so getting onto the peninsula before rush hour is easy to plan. When the truck reaches town before the commuter traffic, the crew can start loading while the street is still quiet and parking is easier to find.
Two-families on the hills
Much of Winthrop is two- and three-family houses packed close together, many on streets that climb. The front steps can be steep, and the interior stairs in older homes are often narrow with a tight turn. Near Winthrop Beach and out toward Point Shirley there are condo buildings, some with elevators and management rules.
Tell us the floor, the number of flights and if there is a back stair. For condo buildings, ask management about elevator times and any paperwork they need from movers. We take beds and tables apart as part of the job and wrap everything in blankets, which matters with the wind coming off the water.
Point Shirley, out at the far end, is the tightest part of town for a truck. Streets narrow, the houses sit close to the road, and there is not much room to turn around. If you live out there, tell us early so we can plan where the truck goes and how far the crew will carry.
Starting prices for a Winthrop move
Most Winthrop apartments are two- or three-person jobs. The exact rate depends on the date, access and inventory, and the written estimate comes before moving day.
Shrink wrap, dollies and tools are included at no charge. Basic coverage is 60 cents per pound per item, and full-value protection is available on request. If the move goes into Boston proper, the truck there needs a street occupancy permit from the Boston Transportation Department, applied for at least 3 business days ahead, with signs posted 48 hours before.

Does traffic near Logan affect a Winthrop move?
It can. The routes into town pass near the airport and East Boston, so we usually suggest an early start.
